Nevi’im / נְבִיאִים / “Prophets”, literally “spokespersons”) is the second major division of the Hebrew Bible (the TaNaKh), or Old Testament, lying between the Torah (instruction) and Ketuvim (writings). The Jewish tradition counts a total of eight books in Nevi’im out of a total of twenty-four books in the entire Tanakh.

In the Hebrew canon the Prophets are divided into (1) the Former Prophets  and (2) the Latter Prophets.

The Protestant canon follows the Septuagint, the Greek version of the Old Testament. It calls the Former Prophets the Historical Books, and subdivides two of them into I and II Samuel and I and II Kings. 

The Prophets in the Protestant canon include Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel from the Hebrew Latter Prophets. The Minor Prophets (The Twelve) are treated as 12 separate books; thus the Protestant canon has 17 prophetic books.

நெவீயீம் “தீர்க்கதரிசிகள்”, அதாவது “செய்தித் தொடர்பாளர்கள்” என்பது எபிரெய வேதாகமத்தின் (தனாக்) அல்லது பழைய ஏற்பாட்டின் இரண்டாவது பெரிய பிரிவாகும், இது தோரா (அறிவுறுத்தல்) மற்றும் கெதூவீம் (எழுத்துகள்) ஆகியவற்றுக்கு இடையில் உள்ளது.

முழு தனாக்கில் உள்ள மொத்த 24 புத்தகங்களில் யூத பாரம்பரியம் நெவீயீமில் மொத்தம் எட்டு புத்தகங்களைக் கணக்கிடுகிறது.

எபிரேய நியதியில் தீர்க்கதரிசிகள் (1) முந்தைய தீர்க்கதரிசிகள் மற்றும் (2) பிந்தைய தீர்க்கதரிசிகள் என பிரிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர்.

புரோடஸ்டன்ட் நியதி பழைய ஏற்பாட்டின் கிரேக்க பதிப்பான செப்டுவஜின்ட்டைப் பின்பற்றுகிறது. இது முந்தைய தீர்க்கதரிசிகளை வரலாற்று நூல்கள் என்று அழைக்கிறது, மேலும் அவர்களில் இருவரை 1 மற்றும் 2 சாமுவேல் மற்றும் 1 மற்றும் 2 இராஜாக்கள் என்று பிரிக்கிறது.

புரோடஸ்டன்ட் நியதியில் உள்ள தீர்க்கதரிசிகள் வரிசையில், எபிரெய பிந்தைய தீர்க்கதரிசிகளில் ஏசாயா, எரேமியா மற்றும் எசேக்கியேல் ஆகியோர் அடங்குவர். சிறிய தீர்க்கதரிசிகளின் புத்தகங்கள் 12ம் தனித்தனி நூல்களாகக் கருதப்படுகிறது; இவ்வாறு புரோடஸ்டன்ட் நியதியில் 17 தீர்க்கதரிசன நூல்கள் உள்ளன.
